Iraq is situated at the northern tip of the Arabian Gulf. Its coastline along the gulf is only 30 km (19 mi.) long. Its only port on the gulf, Umm Qasr, is small and located on shallow water and only small craft can dock there.
Iraq is situated in Southwest Asia and is bounded on the east by Iran on the south by Kuwait, Saudi Arabia and the Persian Gulf, on the west by Jordan and Syria and on the north by Turkey.
