Tunisia has consistently been pursuing a balanced policy of openness and moderation is its international relations. It has consistently sought to promote a comprehensive and peaceful settlement of the Arab-Israeli conflict, which ensure a just and lasting peace in the Middle East. Tunisia played an active role in the Madrid Peace Conference and had fully supported the Middle East Peace Process by participating in its multilateral track and contributing to the realization of Palestinian-Israeli agreements.
As well as peacemaking, Tunisia participated in many humanitarian relief and peacekeeping operation accross the world since the 1960's. It has recently dispatched hundreds of peacekeepers to Cambodia, Namibia, Rwanda and Burundi.
The country places particular importance on economic integration and cooperation with the countries of the Maghreb and between the two shores of the Mediterranean. Tunisia strongly advocates international relations based on cooperation and mutual help. It is a member of many international and regional organizations including the United Nations, the League of Arab States, the Organization of African Unity, the Organization of the Islamic Conference and the Arab Maghreb Union. In all these forums, Tunisia supports dialogue, peaceful settlement of conflicts and tolerance.
